All posts for the month March, 2012

I recently replaced my wired keyboard and mouse with wireless ones but this post isn’t about the joys of typing or clicking on stuff a couple of meters away from your desk just because you can. It’s about that little piece of plastic in my mouse’s battery compartment.

You see, that tab in the battery compartment was placed there for a reason – to help you take the batteries out. Pull the damn thing and the batteries pop off. It’s a really nifty little thing that saves you time and effort.

That Mouse Battery Thingy

Pull tab. Batteries pop off.

So, imagine my horror when I saw the store employee (ironically, tasked to check the mouse out for defects) trying to yank it off. If he succeeded, it would’ve made removing the mouse’s battery a much more involving process. Fortunately, the motherfucker was pretty hard to pull off. So, yeah, the store employee got to live another day.

While I enjoy gobbling down Wrigley’s Doublemint Sugarfree mints, I actually feel bad when the time comes when I need to dispose of the tin case it came in. It just seems so wasteful. So, instead of throwing the tins away, I decided to find alternative uses for them. Right now, some of the tins I have house my USB flash drives.

The tins keep my flash drives organized and safe, plus they’re inconspicuous – I haven’t heard of anyone being mugged for their mints yet. They actually make me feel like a spy when I use them when travelling. True story.

Finally decided to get Rainmeter and I’m definitely loving it. It took me quite some time to figure out how to tinker with things but it was worth my time; had one of the best Sundays ever with this thing.

Setup for my desktop PC:

Recipe:

Recycle Bin – from Serenity
Wallpaper – Stillness from the Storm from Interfacelift.com

Setup for my laptop:

Anyway, Rainmeter has tons of options for desktop customization and I’m really, really, really tempted to put all of them on my screen. But I like my desktop clean. Really clean.
